999 Seconds of Rain/Rainbox

Started with the idea because rain helps me work and the sound is comforting. Wanted to re-create experience/environment in small scale to induce same state of mind. Recorded rain for 2 or 3 minutes everyday for about a week. I like to have organic materials juxtaposed with synthetic.

Wood covered with tar, rain acting as a cleanser, an aide in reconditioning earth.

This piece is given two titles because it was intended to have two purposes; an object to be kept, but also as an experience. The fluid nature of an experience (999 Seconds of Rain) contrasts with the static nature of a functional object (Rain Box).  As an experience, it can be received in different ways by each viewer, yet if labeled as an object, the experience is limited.

(My apologies for the shaky video)

stop motion

-stop-motion animation-

This is my first stop-motion animation called Production & Release.

It includes 3 jars which gradually fill up with a 2 parts water/1 part tar mixture. When one jar is in "production" the one before is is in the process of "release." The production line runs smoothly until it reaches the third jar. The third has nothing to release to; it spills out the tar and the system collapses.
